I am a vocalist, songwriter and musician based in Manchester, England. I play ukulele, guitar and sometimes saxophone and keyboards. I also have a love-hate relationship with technology.
My main band is Lou and the Llamas, known as purveyors of “Knee-trembling, witty, heart-warming songs“. Our sound has been described as “Melodic folk/blues with a wry intelligence. Annoyingly catchy songs, too“. Click here to catch us live.
I also moonlight with various other people performing all kinds of music. Recent collaborations include The Syphonators, Kirsty McGee and Mickey Van Gelder.
Previously, I sang and played with Paula Darwish & The Country & Eastern Band, performing songs in Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic and English. With the band I performed all over the UK and toured Turkey twice, including performances on national Turkish TV.
In February 2015, I appeared on BBC Radio 4’s You And Yours to talk about ukuleles. I also had the honour of teaching presenter Peter White how to play a tune on the uke! Listen here.
In 2012 I started Levy Uke Up, a ukulele jam which takes places every second and last Sunday of the month at the Kingsway pub in Levenshulme, Manchester.
